Silhouette of a superhero with long hair and big muscles in front of a blue background with yellow lightning bolts and three stars around them.

So many parts of our world are in turmoil right now; it can be difficult to navigate the day without experiencing distress or rage or fear or powerlessness.

But Leaders of Volunteer Engagement – we are NOT powerless! In fact, I would argue we are in an excellent position to support our communities to navigate these frightening times and do something to initiate positive change.

These times call for action and uprising and education and people power.

And that is our superpower – mobilising people, at scale; letting people know what their communities need and how they can help; developing volunteer roles based on peoples’ skills and interests and passions and motivations.

And so many people are motivated and passionate. We can support people to move from their sense of paralysis and into action.

What organisations can YOU support by sharing your volunteer engagement skills?

Who can you partner with or help bring together?

How can you amplify the voices of those who need to be heard by your networks and volunteer groups?

Who can you follow on social media, and what new sources of information can you seek to keep yourself informed?

How will you keep your communities connected as they navigate the trauma they are experiencing?

I acknowledge that I live, work and play on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people.  I respect their elders, past and present, and those of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Countries, and I honour their enduring knowledge systems, cultural strength and deep connection to Country.

At Tracey O'Neill Consulting, we believe that strong, connected communities are built on inclusion, respect, and belonging. We celebrate the richness of diversity across cultures, faiths, identities, abilities, ages, and lived experiences. Our work is grounded in creating safe, welcoming spaces where everyone is valued, voices are heard, and community wisdom leads the way.
